Seminar: Augmented Reality for learning and training

On November 1st we will have a seminar on the topic of Augmented Reality as a technology for learning. The first part of the seminar will be a presentation of a recent master’s thesis by Liesl Aparicio from the International Master’s Programme in IT & Learning. 

The thesis has studied the current training and service setting for maintenance and repair technicians at a large MedTech company. By surveying the current landscape of different technological applications, the opportunities and challenges of using augmented reality in both training and service are then discussed. While the work is more exploratory than applied, the study raises particular avenues for AR implementation in relation to specific learning phases and forms of service. It identifies ways for AR-based training and guidance applications to offer useful and beneficial features that can be developed and exploited in various settings. After a summary of the main findings, we will open the discussion broadly to jointly explore the possibilities for Augmented Reality for training and service. We invite participants with an interest in these issues from academia as well as industry to participate in the conversation.
