What is Narrative XR Lab?

Narrative XR Lab is an innovative lab rooted in the Visual Arena at Lindholmen Science Park. A diversity of creative individuals meet here, from graphic designers and screenwriters to game developers, project managers, directors and programmers. This platform gives you the opportunity to be introduced to the creation of stories in media, use the latest XR technology and receive guidance from experts in the field to strengthen your skills and generate exciting XR ideas. No previous experience is required.

Why is this Exciting?

Extended Reality (XR) is a growing field where VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality) and MR (Mixed Reality) set the tone. This technology is more than just a trend - it is an opportunity to redefine storytelling and create new dimensions of experiences. Participants in the Narrative XR Lab, based at the Visual Arena, explore artistic storytelling in XR and strengthen their skills in this cutting-edge domain. In cross-disciplinary teams consisting of directors, artists, graphic designers, game developers and project managers, they collaborate to develop exciting XR projects.

At the Narrative XR Lab, participants work on their XR idea with support from experienced industry leaders. Our partners include:

Gothenburg Film Studios:
Specializing in 360 degree video and virtual production, they offer tutorials and practical workshops.

RISE - Research Institutes of Sweden
They contribute with training and guidance in how narrative and storytelling can be facilitated through games and interactive technology. RISE also provides technical equipment and expertise in these areas.

HDK-Valand – Högskolan för konst och design, Gothenburg University
HDK-Valand is engaged in arranging workshops and curating seminars and panel discussions connected to VR.

They work to make the project's content and experiences available to a wider audience through seminars, presentations and open workshops.

Their network helps spread information about the project. They also enable participants to submit their ideas to the funding calls that Film & TV carries out.

Högskolan i Skövde
HiS has been running an international computer game education for many years, but also the new PlayLab. PlayLab is facilitated by Future Media Theater and is a new high-tech performance and research space in Skövde, focused on experimentation at the intersection between games, game technologies and performance, as well as collaboration between researchers, professional artists, young people and citizens.
