Welcome to Visual Arenas lunch event and discover how CityEngine is being used to create impressive 3D cityscapes in the movie industry. Matthias Buehler, one of the very rare CityEngine specialists, will discuss the CityEngine-related work on Independence Day: Resurgence.
As Environment Developer Lead at Scanline VFX in Vancouver, Matthias was responsible for the implementation of a strong-yet-flexible workflow, for not just Independence Day: Resurgence, but also various other upcoming Hollywood Blockbusters. Matthias will share his experiences, talk about the technical challenges, the resulting workflow and will also give a live CityEngine demo. This presentation is for anyone interested in VFX, procedural workflows and technical making-of talks.

Futhermore, Matthias will present some of his current work in creating a 3D city model of 17th century Gothenburg. This is a collaborative project run by Göteborg & Co, Stadsmuseet, Stadsbyggnadskontoret and Lindholmen Science Park.

Matthias is a CityEngine specialist with a Master’s degree in Architecture plus a strong expertise in photorealistic rendering and technical scripting. After completing his CityEngine work on Independence Day: Resurgence at Scanline VFX in Vancouver, he has since founded his own company vrbn, where he provides highend 3d city services.
